Our story

My father put a leaf in my hands
before I could write my name.

The story of a promise, and the migar it became.

It did not start as a business.
It started as a promise.

Four generations of leaf

Estelí, Nicaragua

I was raised in the rolling rooms of Estelí, Nicaragua, where the tables never go quiet and the air is sweet enough to taste. My family has worked the leaf there for four generations.

My father, Don Saul, taught me the way his own father taught him, slowly, by feel, until the craft lived in my hands and I no longer had to think about it. He was not a man of many words. He said what he meant with his hands, and what his hands said was that this work was worth doing right.

My father

Don Saul

He gave his whole life to that leaf. The same table, the same patient hands, for more than forty years. It was the work he loved.

And in the end, it was the work that took him.

A son’s word

The promise

I sat with him near the end, and I made him a promise. I would keep the craft alive. I would carry everything he taught me forward.

But I would find a way to do it without the tobacco.

What remained

The migar

I had spent years working with hemp, and I understood leaves in a way most rollers never had to. So I went looking for something that could hold everything my father gave me. I found it in the hemp leaf.

It did not come quickly. I built a cure of my own, one that draws the sugars, the starches, and the chlorophyll out of the leaf, until what is left is clean and slow and honest.

I called it the migar. Whole hemp leaf. No tobacco. No nicotine. Made to let the flower you choose speak for itself.

Honor the craft. Lose the tobacco.
Taste the flower you chose.

In loving memory of Don Saul
